Finding Hope

{Poem}

On a lonely cliff she sits,

Gazing into the abyss.

Nothing except darkness

To surround her now.

Is this the true face,

Of the lives we lead?

A girl damned to a Cliffside,

Consumed by the demons no one sees.

Is this the truth of humanity?

A guide she perceives,

Closer it leads,

Like hope for a single moment supreme.

But like all things,

It fades away.

Like a butterfly withers with age.

Still she sits,

On the cliff’s edge.

No longer cloaked in darkness,

For the light of hope still remains.

Just for a moment,

The voices are silent.

Just for a second,

Blissful peace is all she feels.

And then,

Like an angel,

She leaps.

This week was suicide awareness week, and I really wanted to make something for it. I wasn't exactly sure what to do, but then I decided on this.

Depression is often what leads to suicide, and most of the times, it's like you're consumed by a dark void with no light, or way to escape your mind. It isn't something to be taken lightly, most certainly not. And so, I would like to urge all those who feel like their trapped in their own minds, drowning in an ocean of grief and misery, to contact someone, anyone. Talking doesn't always help, but more often than not, it is a start in finding hope.

For me, I wanted to represent the girl's sorrow, and hopelessness, and then, just a fraction of light. Something to show that, regardless of circumstance, there is hope. No matter how small. And that is what the butterfly represents. 

For those who lost the battle against depression, may they rest in peace, and for those who still find the courage to fight, please know that you are incredibly brave, and you are not alone.
